At Skills Canada – Nova Scotia, we believe that everyone should have equal access to our programs, competitions and opportunities. We strive to be accessible and inclusive to all and we are committed to identifying and removing barriers to access through a range of services. We continue to work on improving our methods & services to better serve people with all manner of disabilities. SCNS offers a range of programs for Nova Scotian youth with disabilities. These free programs are designed specifically to help individuals explore the possibility of a career in skilled trade and technology and are available to organisations and learning centres across the province.

Competitions

At SCNS, we want everyone to have the opportunity to explore skilled trades and technologies, enhance their skills and share their talents. Therefore, we are committed to adapting, developing and being responsive to the needs of anyone who wishes to compete. We will help you to identify any barriers you may face during our competitions and will find ways to address them.

Additional Services

In this section you will find details of the services that Skills Canada – Nova Scotia currently provides in order for anyone who would benefit from additional support to make their experience with us an enjoyable one.

Wheelchair Accessibility and Mobility

Skills Canada – Nova Scotia encourages the use of personal assistive devices and mobility devices whenever possible in order to improve access to our programs and competitions. During our events, we operate in a range of venues and so please contact us in advance to ensure we have time to make necessary arrangements.

Support Persons

A person with a disability who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to have that person escort them during all our competitions and events. There is no fee for support persons attending any of our events.

Service Animals

Skills Canada Nova Scotia acknowledges the vital relationship and dependency that exists between a person with disabilities and their service animal. Service animals are welcome at all our events and competitions.

ASL Interpreting Services

Skills Canada-Nova Scotia welcomes requests for American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters for those who are D/deaf, deafened, or hard-of-hearing at any of our workshops, competitions, meetings and events.

To make a request to have an interpreter present, please contact us at least 3 weeks prior to the event.

Closed Captions

Skills Canada Nova Scotia provides closed captions on all of its pre-recorded video content and learning resources. Closed captions need to be turned on by the viewer by pressing a CC button on a video player or on a video sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo.

Open Captions

Skills Canada- Nova Scotia provides open captions on all video materials at competitions and events that are visible to everyone. Open captions are permanently on the video and can be accessed at any time.

Website Accessibility

Our website has font-control. Some users might find screen text easier to read by increasing the size at which text is displayed. Our font is scalable, and its size is determined by the settings of your browser.
